Trekking NI gathered at Meelmore Lodge from where they journeyed into The Mourne’s taking on three peaks on a hot summers day. The group travelled across Meelmore Bog where they enjoyed views of Shirma River and the majestic Slieve Meelmore towering over them as they passed by. The group followed a trail up the valley of Slieve Meelmore and Slieve Bearnagh before conquering both. After summiting Bearnagh, the group made their way down a steep descent into Hare’s Gap then travelled onwards towards Slievenaglogh. A trail guided the group to Trassey Track from where they made their way back to Meelmore Lodge. The intensity of the hike was softened with laughter, interesting conversation and bonding. At the end of a challenging hike, time was taken for some ice cream in Newcastle town followed by a dip in Murlough Beach to conclude a memorable summer experience in the outdoors with friends.
